Kabelline is a contouring serum made by Dexlevo Inc. in South Korea. Its active ingredient is synthetic deoxycholic acid, with L-carnitine added. Each box holds five 8 mL vials. Clinics use it for small, defined areas of fat — most often the double chin, and also the abdomen, thighs and upper arms.

What is Kabelline made of?

Kabelline is a deoxycholic acid solution. It contains no phosphatidylcholine (PPC).

• Deoxycholic acid — a bile acid that the body also makes itself to help digest fat. The synthetic form is used here.
• L-carnitine — an amino acid derivative that carries fatty acids into cells to be used for energy.
• Water as the base.

How does Kabelline work?

Deoxycholic acid breaks down the membrane of fat cells it touches. The cell contents are released and the body clears them over the following weeks. Because the fat cells themselves are destroyed, they do not refill. Remaining fat cells can still grow if the patient gains weight.

Kabelline vs PPC solutions — which should you stock?

Choose by area. Deoxycholic acid on its own is used for small, precise areas. PPC with deoxycholate is the usual pick for larger body areas.

How is Kabelline used?

It is placed in the subcutaneous fat layer in small amounts across a marked grid. Follow the instructions for use in the box for the volume per point, the spacing, the limit per session and the gap between sessions. Results build over a course of sessions, not one visit.

Swelling, tenderness and some numbness in the treated area are expected for several days, and can be marked under the chin. Tell patients before the first session. Under the chin, stay clear of the marginal mandibular nerve.

How should Kabelline be stored?

Store it as printed on the box: in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Do not freeze. Use an opened vial promptly and discard what is left.
