What is Meditoxin made of?
Meditoxin is purified botulinum toxin type A supplied as a freeze-dried (lyophilized) powder. Medytox produces it from the Hall strain of Clostridium botulinum. The vial also contains human serum albumin and sodium chloride as stabilisers.
Medytox makes two other toxins. Coretox 100U is a powder without albumin or complexing proteins. Innotox is a ready-to-use liquid.
How does Meditoxin work?
Meditoxin blocks the release of acetylcholine where nerves meet muscle. The treated muscle relaxes for a period of months, so the skin above it creases less. That is why it is used on dynamic wrinkles — lines caused by movement — and on overactive muscles such as the masseter.
How do you dilute a 200-unit vial?
Reconstitute with preservative-free 0.9% sodium chloride. The volume of saline sets how many units are in each 0.1 mL:

These are double the volumes used for a 100-unit vial, so check the label before you draw up. Add the saline slowly down the side of the vial and swirl gently. Do not shake.
When do results show and how long do they last?
Most patients notice an effect within a few days, with the full result at around 2 weeks. Results usually last 3 to 4 months, and sometimes up to 6. Keep repeat treatments at least 3 months apart.

Keep unopened vials refrigerated at 2–8 °C. After reconstitution, keep the vial in the fridge and use it within 24 hours. We ship toxins with cold packs in insulated packaging.
